Ethel Fernandez, P.Eng.
I currently work as a quality engineer for the Royal Canadian Mint, but did not start as one.
I applied for the engineer position when I was just completing my IEEQ program. Expectedly, I did not get the job. Unexpectedly, I was offered a newly-created position in the same department. While it was one level lower than an engineering position, I’ve eagerly accepted the job. Turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made. The candidate who got the engineer position became my mentor and was instrumental in getting my P.Eng. designation.
Some key takeaways from this experience leading to where I am now in my career is that one should appreciate every single opportunity, be grateful with the chance given to you and work hard to show those who gave you the opportunity that you are worth it.
As for the hobby, I currently enjoy reading legal thriller novels that were made into movies, such as “The Client” & “Anatomy of a Murder”. Read first, then watch.

Joy Oserio, P.Eng.
My name is Joy Oserio, P.Eng. I work at Gerdau, Selkirk, Manitoba. Gerdau manufactures long and special steel products for the agriculture,
energy, industrial, automotive and manufacturing markets by transforming scraps to new products promoting sustainable development.
I coordinate Capex Electrical projects, in charge of supervising the development while observing conditions such as cost, quality, safety and timelines.
I lead in the definition of project scope, specifications, planning, coordination, implementation, resource allocation and risk management. I also assist in production troubleshooting, design and upgrades.
I aspire to see more women in this industry. It makes me feel warm every time I see women on the floor, operating machines, driving fork lifts, etc.
My motivation to excel in my job is so that in my own little way, I can pave the path a wee bit easier for women engineers of the next generation especially in a male dominated steel industry.

Kresta Zumel, P.Eng.
Studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Manitoba from 2010-2015
Attained P.Eng designation in 2020
At the beginning of my career as a young fresh graduate, I was constantly challenged of getting myself heard and my opinions valued. I mean who would listen to a little girl who just got out of school. Every day I had to take things in stride, build my confidence and gradually earn my respect. I have now since then transitioned into a Team leadership role and have been mentoring more junior colleagues. What motivates me is to see them succeed and fulfilled in their tasks. At the same time, I strive to continue developing myself and contribute to the success of the teams I work with.
Outside of work, I volunteer here with FMC. I also like exploring and creating experiences from different parts of the world. I also have recently got my hand in building small DIY woodworking projects thanks to covid boredom. My fingers are all intact still so all good :)

Lennie Capina, EGM Student
I am an internationally educated Electronics Engineering graduate, experienced in a Manufacturing and Assembly environment. Was not born dreaming to be an Engineer, was probably least of what I wanted when I was younger. But my Production and Process Engineering experience made me realize that this is the path I would love to be. Now that I am working to be one of the Professional Engineers in Manitoba, I took that opportunity to make it right and take the branch that I enjoy most - which is Industrial Engineering.

Marian Regalario, U of M Student
My name is Marian Regalario, and I am a 4th-year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Manitoba. I am currently doing my work term as a Measurement Projects Engineering Co-op Student in TC Energy in Calgary, Alberta. I also took B.S. in Civil Engineering in University of the Philippines - Los Banos for 2 years, before migrating to Canada.
My friends describe me as a hardworking person who is always ready to take on a challenge. I believe that these traits are what drives me to become a Professional Engineer (and, maybe, a Professor) someday.
During my spare time, I love to sketch and paint. I also love reading books about astrophysics. In my life, I want to be like Leonardo Da Vinci, who can cater to both the scientific and the artistic.

Mary Ann Hill, EIT
Hi, my name is Mary Ann Hill, EIT. I'm an engineer working in a manufacturing company. I’m also a sewer, embroiderer, knitter, and enjoy learning new things. At this point in time, I believe we can all make a difference and make use of our talents with joy and empathy to serve others.

Melissa Pasahol, EIT
I studied in University of Manitoba with Electrical Engineering Degree since September 2014 to April 2020 with a goal of to be a licensed Professional Engineer. In between those years, I encountered a lot of opportunities that would divert my attention not completing that goal. I had two pregnancies, I got employed with BellMTS as Technician, and I got my Insurance Agent Licence and Registered Retirement Education with the financial industry in Canada. With all that success, there is always a part of me that has unfinished business. Success is not always satisfying your physical need but it must satisfy the whole you, mentally, socially, morally. Engineering was part of me since I was young child, Math was my life and being an immigrant in new country will not change whom I was destined to be. It triggered me most watching my eldest growing and started building his own designs and own dreams. How would I encourage my children to dream if I stopped achieving my own dream? Glory to God, Bell gave me time, Manitoba gave me finance and my family kept me inspired. My hobby is the everyday working mother, my pass time is spending fun times with friends, and serving God through his people is my passion.
She is passionate. She is creative. She is innovative. She is confident. She is determined. She is kind.
